10 Reasons Why We Should Be Proud Filipinos

Posted by Kristan Wednesday, December 30, 2009 View Comments

It is December 30, and we Filipinos never forget what our national hero, Jose Rizal did to our country. He spent most of his years fighting for the Filipinos' freedom, thus, making us proud of him, and to our heritage.

Being a Filipino is worth living for. Our heritage is unique in our own way. We give importance to our culture, and most of all, our fellow countrymen.

If you are a a PROUD FILIPINO, then you can fir one of these 10 unique traits we, Filipino have:

1. Camaraderie - Recently, we experienced consecutive typhoons, but we also witnessed how strong the foundation of our country is when it comes to helping each one of us
2. Religious - Filipinos are God-fearing
3. Hardcore Filipino Telenovelas - every tv station is up to it, and every viewer is updated to the tv series' latest hapenings.
4. Good Traveller - Filipinos are adventurous, we almost wander around the nation, also to the other part of the world.
5. Family Values - We are very much concerned to each of our family.
6. Resourceful - A Filipino is resourceful, he or she think of a way to get the job done.
7. Fiesta Gathering - It is found in every celebration, birthdays, fiestas, and some special gatherings. We don't forget LECHON!
8. Expression of Attitude Towards Art - We are creative, Pinoys are very creative, because each of us have talent.
9. Fond of Streetfoods - Everyone loves to stay and eat at a stall somewhere in the streets, It is our past-time, eating kwek-kwek, isaw (chicken intestine), and barbecues.
10. Videoke Masters - We are fond of singing-along with the beat of a videoke machine, the coin-operated videoke machine, it doesn't matter how many coins we have spent, but the thing is, we have fun having the spirit of being PINOY.

These were just 10 out of the many reasons I could formulate on why we should be proud of our heritage. I know there are tons of reasons why we should be proud of ourselves, and these are infinit. Just be yourself, show to the world, be a proud PINOY!

I've been there: Jojie Alcantara Photography Workshop

Posted by Kristan Tuesday, December 22, 2009 View Comments

As a photography hobbyist, joining photography-related workshops and photo-walks is a great way to develop one's skills. Composition and proper lightings, these are one of the very basic learnings a hobbyist must understand in order to come up with variety of good shots.

Photography has been my hobby since my junior years in high school. Since this hobby is quite expensive to pursue, owning DSLR cameras and use of certain gadgets should be the very foundation.

I borrowed an Olympus E-500 from Orman Manansala, author of Ganda Ever So Much, to suffice my needs in shooting. I only got a handy-dandy digicam so far. My first official photography workshop happened last December 21,2009 at The Farm, Koronadal. That was my first time in The Farm.

Jojie Alcantara's workshop lasted for 8 hours. The event was jampacked by SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers. Bloggers from Koronadal city and General Santos were there, most of us bagged cameras. The SOCCSKSARGEN Blogger's Christmas party was also held that afternoon.

The event started 15 minutes later after we settled inside the place's function hall. Everything was in order, each blogger then introduced their blog. Later on, the workshop proper started with a dose of the colorful photos taken by Ma'am Jojie. The Opera Campus Crew of MSU also introduced the features of the Opera browser, led by Alexis Chua, author of DeBlogged.

In summary, what we all learned in composing photographs:

1.) Consider Rule of Thirds
2.) See for patterns
3.) Leading lines
4.) Perspectives
5.) The Worm's eye-view (shooting from the bottom)
6.) The Bird's eye-view (shooting from the top)
7.) Reflections
8.) Details
9.) Horizons
10.) The foreground, subject, and background.

The Next One concert in Gensan was a BLAST

Posted by Kristan Tuesday, December 15, 2009 View Comments

As the maestro, Louie Ocampo jived with the rest of the band, the lights went out. Soon, people from different sides screamed with excitement. Flash cameras started to fill the stage, enough to prove the authenticity of the night. That was the time I felt enthusiastic.

The intensity brought by Sarah Geronimo right into the crowd was enough to make the event's conclusion. As she finished her introduction, the music filled the whole arena, one of the famous dance group of the country, G-Force, rolled in with the beat.

Sir Avel (Bariles), author of Gensan News Online Mag, gave me a chance to use his Canon 1000d with 200mm lens, and soon I started taking photos. After a few songs, it was the time Simon Wood, son of the great Victor Wood, filled the crowd with mellow tagalog songs.

After quite some time, the Pop Princess is back on track. She performed some her popular songs. Mark Bautista joined in to fill another wardrobe break of Sarah G, he also performed his soothing ballad songs.

Along with the fact that Jimmy Marquez is a Cebuano, he did some humorous bisayan ice breaker to keep the crowd in-touched. He also showed his talent in singing, one of it was his song piece in Star in a Million (2005).

Then, here comes the fast-beat set of the concert, she was dressed in black, obvious enough that she'll be performing fast-beat tunes. Later on, Jay-R, RnB prince of the country, accompanied her.

Subsequently, Jay-R performed RnB songs, particularly, So Sick by Neyo. He soon went down the stage to reach for the ecstatic audience.

After another wardrobe break, the Pop Princess went on to perform the concert finale. Dressed in a yellow gown, she sang the high-pitched song, Alone by Celine Dion.

To end the night, all of them were on stage. People began standing up to give a dominant standing ovation.

Why watching The Next One concert is a must?

Posted by Kristan Friday, November 27, 2009 View Comments

If you are one of the 21 readers of this site, then probably, you could've read my winning post about David Pomeranz' concert established by Dreamwork Ventures. It must've been the cheesiest words that gave my blog entry to reach the first place in blog writing contest about the great singer's concert.

That was long ago, and that blog was now into deep silence. As an introduction to my latest blog, a more personal one, this post would be an official entry to Dreamwork Venture's and Gensan News Online Mag's Sarah Geronimo The Next One blog writing contest, while stating your 5 reasons why you should watch the Pop Princess' event.

...Yes, Sarah Geronimo? Ring a bell? That name is always in the air. The one who made "sundance" famous and that soul-hitting notes "Forever's Not Enought"? Definitely, Sarah Geronimo's The Next One Philippine Tour had just hit Gensan. December 11,2009 would be a history where she will rock Lagao Gym, GSC.

Here are 5 reasons I formulated on why you should watch this concert.

1.) Pop Princess-turned actress.

See what's unique? Sarah Geronimo made her way on screen with A Very Special Love, and its sequel, You Changed My Life, while maintaining the popular image as, "Pop Princess", with her famous songs, "Lumingon Ka Lang", "Sa Iyo", "A Very Special Love", and many other hits.

Seeing here perform live is very different on-screen, she got to prove the power of her voice, and those manic dance moves she applied in her pop beats. I know, we all want to see the hottest singing sensation LIVE!

2.) Sarah and her "bungisngis" looks

From the hair, eyes, and her smile, it would be better if you who see her in person. Experience her very positive aura using her "bungisngis" expressions.

I've been wanting to see her in person, the fact that she's one of the most famous singer in our country. Her jolly personality would definitely catch everyone's attention.

3.) All-in-one concert

It's not just the Pop Princess who would jive with the Generals on the event night, but also the hottest singing sensations of this generation.

Adding flavors to this concert, Mark Bautista, which would serve as Sarah G's duet partner. While sizzling up the upbeats, Billy Joe Crawford and Jay-R would pop their way in the RnB tunes along with Jimmy Marquez and Simon Wood.

4.) Full Band means Full Blast!

Louie Ocampo, famous musical composer and arranger, the man who , would eventually lead the band that will accompany the Pop Princess. Not just that, i've been seeing the his genius works through famous artists singing performance. APO Hiking Society and Gary V. are just one of the many who applied his works.

So, if Louie Ocampo would lead a band, the creative mix inside the venue would definitely be in full blast. Thus, maintaining the good quality of the music and the powerful harmony of the instruments.

5.) Stress-free

Believe me, my everyday life as an IT student is so toxic, so, this event, would definitely unwind myself. It would definitely break the ice. I've got to relax somehow, and I know, I could enjoy this concert with the upbeat songs that would eventually make us dance.

Got the good points? I know these are just few of the thousand reasons why you should watch The Next One concert.

With the help of Mr. Michael Wee of Dreamwork Ventures and the most famous blog of SOCCSKSARGEN, Gensan News Online Mag, this blog contest is established.
